Product information "Shigeru Kawai SK-6"
At first, Shigeru was an ordinary worker. He spent all day in the production area and sometimes slept at the factory overnight. He would even bathe with his colleagues, using a barrel as a bathtub. It was a sign of how focused he was on his work and how much he loved it. Three years later, he would begin learning piano design from his adoptive father, Koichi Kawai, the founder of Kawai. An engineer known as "Hatsumei Koichi (Koichi the Inventor)", Koichi was the first in Japan to design and build a complete piano action. He taught Shigeru how to build pianos from scratch. "Pianos are made of wood, so they must be handcrafted in a way that respects the characteristics of each material." "As long as you build pianos, you must strive to build the best in the world." Shigeru paid close attention to Koichi's every word, but his adoptive father suddenly passed away. Filled with anxiety and despair, Shigeru took over the company. Over the following 35 years, Shigeru worked to grow the company, turning Kawai into an industry leader representing Japanese quality. When asked about his career, Shigeru often remarked: "Making pianos is the most wonderful job I have ever had." Shigeru Kawai was that kind of man.
